My shredder finally cut its last piece. Saturday I went to a local office supply store to purchase a new one. I had done my homework, and now I walked into this store to make my purchase. Why this store? They had mailed me a coupon. It was only for $10 off if I spent at least $50. That's easy to do when purchasing a shredder.
With shredder in hand, I began the check out process. What!!!!???
I could not believe what I was hearing. "Sorry, sir, you cannot use this coupon on technology items." Again...What!!!?? "Since when did a shredder meet the definition of technology?" I asked. The clerk replied, "It has a plug."
So, now I know the definition of technology. Anything with a PLUG.
Now that I have had time to cool down (yes, for some reason I went ahead and purchased from them anyway), I have been able to reflect and try to learn that "life lesson."
I am always trying to explain to people the importance of technology in ministry and the difference between a tool and a toy. Ironically, I now have to say that true Technology in Ministry not only has a plug but is "plugged in." By this I mean that unless the technology fits into the vision/plan for ministry that God has given a church (plugged-in), then it is just a toy with a plug.

So, is the balding gentleman in the back row a "technology product"? He's got plugs.
